About
The story of Loupis McWoop
Loupis McWoop was a nickname I earned quite accidentally in my senior year of high school, around 1997-98. A friend of mine was completing the label on a video of a play I was in and she "Woop!" wrote my first name down wrong and then purposely got my last name completely wrong.
Woop! Loupis! stuck and I’ve used variations of the name on web sites and outdoor school counselor sweatshirts, nametags, etc. Only one person has ever been offended by "Loupis" and that’s because they knew someone with lupus. But, the name has nothing to do with the disease; it’s merely happy coincidence.
The comic Loupis is loosely based on my experiences, but everything is pretty much fabricated. I really do have a friend we call STD, but he’s not as brainless as the STD in the strip. The blue shirt that Loupis wears is exactly like my favorite blue shirt in the whole world that will probably not last through the end of the year.
If you were to add a really thin and teenagey goatee, this is almost what I look like:
Although Loupis and I are very similar, he’s only one side of me. I’ve written in plans to have Loupis’ cousin Larvis to come in to the picture soon. Larvis will look more like me and talk like I do after a few pints.
